A weekly watercolour and art class catch up? Yes please!
After completing my watercolour course with a group of 8 budding artists I have decided to run another class. This time for a whole ten weeks!
The classes will run every Tuesday night (6:30-9pm) from the 30th of July until the 1st of October.
I am always dreaming of where my art will take me. In the past it has been a vehicle for introducing me to new people and places- whether that’s through a commission, a workshop or an exhibition. It excites me that I cannot predict where my work might take me next! That’s the beautiful thing about it… not knowing how, what and who it will connect with and what that connection will bring. Whilst it is unknown I am excited for this journey.
The positive aspect of this shift is the thinking it has inspired in me. How does my art business run outside of Instagram and indeed any social media platform? How can I use my creative, problem solving noggin to come up with solutions? I decided upon a few things:
Mood boards have always provided me with a way of summarising my thoughts as I am such a visual learner and thinker….
Whilst a 'good craftsman never blames his tools' the difference between a good brush and a not-so-good brush can impact effects of a delicate art form such as watercolour painting…
Looking back I don’t think I have ever had a solid plan! There have definitely been goals along the way but a lot of big decisions have been based on intuition or gut feeling.
It's one of my favourite mediums to use for its versatility and translucent quality. It offers its users an array of effects; from washy hints of colour to punchy statements achieved by 'working up' the pigment...
Your art journal is a suitable place for this experimenting to take place; there is no pressure for perfection and a pre-determined outcome...
I'm a big fan of inspirational quotes (guilty...) but I try and keep my Instagram feed separate from this interest. Recently I've been feeling stuck creatively and have been experiencing all the uncomfortable, vulnerable feelings of not knowing exactly my direction and purpose etc.
I am excited to get this new chapter out into the world, sharing not only my art and illustrations but some of the ideas I have around process and inspiration...
